1845年出生於法國帕美的佛瑞，早年被父親送往巴黎學習風琴與作曲，並受聖桑復興法國音樂的職志莫大影響。生平歷任馬德列奴教堂風琴師，以及巴黎音樂院教授、院長等職，對於法國在醞釀近代純音樂的發展上，貢獻良多。他留給後世的室內樂、鋼琴音樂與歌曲等作品，可謂音樂史上無與倫比的傑作。本輯收錄他所有的鋼琴作品，包括夜曲、船歌、即興曲與奇想圓舞曲等，最後更加收兩首四手聯彈作品－－桃莉組曲Op.56，以及根據華格納歌劇舞曲主題改編的「拜魯特的回憶」。法國鋼琴家柯拉德很早就進入巴黎國立高等音樂學校就讀，隨後更贏得隆－提博（Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud）以及季弗拉（Cziffra）等國際比賽大獎，尤其以法國作品的詮釋最為擅長。本輯是柯拉德1973-1983年間在EMI的錄音，他清澈而充滿浪漫靈感的琴音，相當反映出佛瑞作品的特色，EMI值得信賴的錄音更增加本輯的收藏價值。（舊版編號：B-93007）

In comparison with his symphonies and chamber works, Dvorák’s piano oeuvre has been paid relatively scant attention. The composer himself was not a virtuoso and by means of the piano he frequently gauged the bearing capacity of his musical ideas, instrumenting a number of his originally piano compositions shortly after completing them. Accordingly, his piano pieces lack virtuoso flamboyance and are more than anything else a reflection of his inner life. It concerns delicate personal lyricism, the capturing of momentary ideas which are, however, cultivated with the refinement of a musical genius.

This delicacy and inner wealth fully come to the fore at the hands of Radoslav Kvapil, a pianist renowned as an eminent connoisseur and promoter of Czech piano music. In addition to the complete piano works of Dvorák and Janácek, his discography includes the breakthrough recording of J. V. H. Voríšek’s works. Radoslav Kvapil has had the opportunity to represent Czech music on many prestigious concert stages worldwide, including the Royal Albert Hall, Barbican and Carnegie Recital Hall.

Edna Stern - a pupil of Krystian Zimerman in Basel, Martha Argerich in Brussells and Leon Fleisher in the USA, and prizewinner of the Juventus Foundation - herself belongs to this to-and-fro between musical tradition and modernity. It was while she was studying basso continuo at the Musik-Akademie in Basel that her improvisation teacher Rudolf Lutz wrote and ultimately dedicated to Edna Stern his 32 variations on Bach’s chaconne.

After we have listened to these transcriptions by three composers and ‘disciples’, Amandine Beyer - holder of a Premier Prix from the Paris Conservatoire on the modern violin, and a soloist’s diploma from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis under Chiara Banchini on the Baroque instrument, winner of the First Prize at the Antonio Vivaldi International Violin Competition of Turin, and prizewinner of the Juventus Foundation - offers us a timelessly beautiful interpretation of the original chaconne on Baroque violin.

Jean-Marc Apap - the eclectic violist, regular partner of Richard Galliano, the Rita Mitsouko, and his brother Gilles Apap, a brilliant graduate of the Curtis Institute of Philadelphia - presents the cello suites of J. S. Bach on the viola. This free approach to the music brings his experience of jazz and Indian music to bear on the universality of Bach.

The transcriptions of the Leipzig Chorales add three contrasting interludes to the rhythm of this solo CD, three excursions towards the peaks of Bach’s polyphonic art. The wealth of traditional expertise so typical of improvised music makes a vivid contribution to these new readings.

Thanks to his intimate acquaintance with both the harpsichord and the violin, Bach did not opt for sonatas for violin accompanied by harpsichord, but instead used his mastery of the specific features of each instrument to combine them in a conversation of equals, where one cannot exist without the other.

Inspired by Bach’s polyphonic vision, Blandine Rannou, Florence Malgoire and Franck Jaffrès took great care to position the two instruments on the same sonic plane, so that the recording would place us at the centre of the polyphony, rejecting the notion of a violin in the foreground with an accompanying harpsichord set behind it. And thanks to this, everything becomes crystal-clear . . .

We can hear Bach’s attention to the interplay of timbres (plucked strings, bowed strings), as if he were dealing with organ stops where each voice is of equal importance. We can appreciate the sparring between the violin and the harpsichordist’s right hand, while the left hand provides the harmonic and rhythmic structure, the soaring melodic lines on the violin while the harpsichord articulates, the moments where the violin comments on the arabesques of the harpsichord . . . Bach’s ingenuity is endless. Sonata no.6 - with its extraordinary wealth of contrapuntal lines - recalls both the festive jubilation of the Brandenburg Concertos and (in its middle movement) the fruitful harmonic tensions of the Musical Offering. All Bach is here, in that magical process whereby two artists merge into one.

Claude-Bénigne Balbastre（1727—1799）出生在第戎，但是关于他的出生时间现在还有争议。他的父亲是第戎的一位管风琴师，结过两次婚有18个子女，Claude-Bénigne是他的第16个孩子。Claude-Bénigne最初的音乐教师自然是他的父亲，之后他又成为Claude Rameau的学生——C. Rameau是Jean-Philippe Rameau的弟弟，也是第戎人。1750年，Claude-Bénigne Balbastre来到巴黎跟随Pierre Février学习并且之后接替了他的老师在Saint Roch教堂的管风琴师一职。Jean-Philippe Rameau也帮助了这位年轻人并把他介绍给巴黎的音乐圈子以及上流社会。这以后他的职业生涯开始步入辉煌：他在圣灵音乐会上演奏，先后担任了皇家礼拜堂和巴黎圣母院的管风琴师，教授路易十六和他的皇后Marie-Antoinette羽管键琴以及管风琴。

這不是一張你心目中以為會聽到的蒙台威爾第牧歌集音樂。一開始聽到著名的觸技曲時，或許你會覺得不過是較輕淡和節奏感較強的詮釋，但隨著接下來的「可嘆啊，跌倒了」，卻開始查覺到數字低音的節奏開始出現切分音和後置重音，這不是巴洛克音樂的節奏啊？再往後一兩小節會出現一兩個「藍音」，一開始你以為是樂團奏錯了，再往下，竟然開始出現爵士的和弦，最後從假聲男高音雅洛斯基和女高音努莉亞的口中，竟然開始就著蒙台威爾第的旋律唱出爵士了。但這是一張爵士的蒙台威爾第專輯呢？又不是，下一首「我望著你」又回復到以雙頸魯特琴伴奏的巴洛克正統版本，琶音古樂集的演奏呈現一種清澈感，那是一種早期古樂團沒有的自信：不用在蒙台威爾第牧歌中擺放那麼多的配器來突顯樂譜，就算只是一把雙頸魯特，一樣可以活靈活現的表現出樂曲的神妙之處。

簡介:

普羅柯菲夫從現代主義走回浪漫主義的代表作－－芭蕾音樂「羅密歐與茱麗葉」，在浪漫愛情故事背後隱藏著深層的悲傷，藉由中提琴陰暗晦澀的獨特音色，更能表達其宿命般的悲劇性。就像海飛玆改編自其中的「面具」或是改編自「三個橘子之戀」中的「進行曲」，本輯改編者波利索夫斯基（V. Borisovsky）同樣相當精準地，以單一弦樂器掌握到曲中的精神與內涵。師法巴哈的「平均律」，蕭士塔高維契的前奏曲Op.34融合了巴洛克式樂念、古老民歌與俄羅斯音樂特有的風格，將這種盛行於十七世紀的鍵盤樂器代表形式，以現代語彙重新呈現。這組作品曾經由Dimitri Tzyganov改編為小提琴和鋼琴的版本，在此，波利索夫斯基再度藉由中提琴獨特的音色，呈現出另一種風貌。蕭士塔高維契於1975年完成的中提琴奏鳴曲，也是他的最後一首作品，獻給貝多芬四重奏團的中提琴手Fyodor Druzhinin。這首晚年大作，曲風簡潔內容卻十分深刻。

出生於1954年、學自劍橋大學的羅賓‧艾爾蘭，他不但是戴穆斯（Domus）合奏團的創始團員，更曾經在歷史悠久的林賽（Lindsay）四重奏團，擔任中提琴手長達二十五年，直到2005年七月該團解散。除了演奏之外，他也是一位出色的教師以及作曲家。他身兼作曲與演奏的中提琴專輯，也已經在Meridian旗下發行。在本輯中，艾爾蘭自制而矜持的琴韻，在絲毫不給人以技巧取勝的印象中，其精采的詮釋完全展現出兩位俄羅斯大師作品的精神。
