Hello again
Firstly some information on amplifier choice. The high sensitivity which is a characteristic of the Westminster means that a relatively low powered design can be used, such as single ended triode. However, a higher power design allows for better dynamics and a greater damping factor in order to better control the large LF cone. This therefore is a matter for personal taste in both music and sonic characteristics desired from the system as a whole.
It is our opinion that a high quality amplifier somewhere between 60 and 150w is a safe bet to achieve the potential offered by the Westminsters format. One or two examples might be the Pass Labs Class A XA60.5 Transistor or the Audio Research Reference 150 Tube. I personally like the Unison Research products but must confess I have not yet heard these in a system with the Westminster, but rather with the Kingdom Royal. I am also always impressed by the mixture of warmth and dynamics achieved by the Accuphase products, which for me always manages to bring out the important characteristics of the Prestige Series, both in detailed accuracy and speed in the low end.
With regard to source, the greatest experience I have when travelling to shows in Asia is with both Esoteric and Accuphase, which we tend to favour.
I am also intending to send you some tech info regarding the concept of the Westminster Royal.
Kind regards
Martyn Nash
Tannoy.
