Janis Joplin died a few days before I was born. She was only 27 years old. But I didn't know her or her songs until I was about 40 years old, being attracted and confused at the same time of American pop music history. Janis' coarse voice was quite a shock at first hearing after buying "Pearl" with 5 euros at a flea market, the last and posthumous album of this iconic star in 1960s. It was almost 5 years which has eclipsed without a noticeable mark on, eh, say everything.
It is good to pick up some old rhythms and tunes that still make toes wagging and heart beating quicker. Particularly when the playback system present a more touchable vocal image and involving instrumental timbre. |
